The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890, and the National Society published Lineage Books with abstracts of the pedigrees of members. These show the descent from one or more ancestors who contributed to the Revolutionary cause. By 1940 some 160 volumes had appeared, each containing about 1,000 lineages and an index to the Revolutionary ancestors, called the "Roll of Honor," and an index of the "Daughters" whose pedigrees were in the volume 1.
