Additional Biographical Information

Stokely had a son and son-in-law who were member of the same company:

Rohan Letchworth-wounded and captured at Gettysburg, PA
Swinton W. Barber-captured Rappahannock Station, VA

Stokely Letchworth was the son of Joseph Letchworth and his wife Sarah. He was born around 1812 in Louisiana and probably died in late 1861 or early 1862. He was married to Nancy Morris. Nancy was the daughter of Wettenhall Warner Morris and Sarah Richardson.

Stokely's father Joseph Letchworth, was born in Virginia about 1789 and his mother Sarah was born in NC about 1799. Joseph was in Louisiana by 1812 and operated the ferry across the Bogue Chitto River near Strawberry Bluff. Stokely was both ferry operator and farmer.

Nancy's father Wettenhall Warner Morris, was born about 1794 in SC and died May 22, 1849 in St. Tammany Parish, LA, and her mother, Sarah Richardson, was born about 1800 in Bulloch County, GA. They were married on January 28, 1818 by her Uncle, Benjamin Richardson, the magistrate. Wettenhall was a veteran of the War of 1812 and the battle of New Orleans.

Stokely enlisted in Confederate Service on July 7, 1861, and accompanied the unit to Virginia. He was discharged from service on September 12, 1861, due to sickness. Most likely, he had contracted some illness during his stay in the Camps of the 9th Louisiana.

Stokely returned to Washington Parish and probably died in late 1861 or early 1862 as a result of his illness. He and his wife Nancy are buried in the old Magee Cemetery at Plainview, LA.
