Additional Biographical Information
Collin Beaton moved with wife from Benton County, TN shortly before the Civil War. In 1862 he was recruited by Captain Kuykendall for service in the 30th Arkansas Infantry. During the summer of 1862 a terrible outbreak of cholera, typhus, and measles broke out amongst the troops at Camp Nelson near Austin, Arkansas where Collin was posted. Between 1 and 2000 Texas and Arkansas troops died during this outbreak including Collin. He is buried in an Unknown's Grave at Camp Nelson Confederate Cemetery in Austin.
