Additional Biographical Information

John Daniel, my 2nd great grandfather's father was William Crawley Mallicoat born 07/26/1811. He married Margaret Dotson in 1833. William had 10,000 acres of land in and around Clinch mountain Grainger co., TN (have paper copy of land deed. This was signed by the then govenor Andrew Johnson, who later became president. Grant was issued 03/15/1856. William Crawley Mallicoat was a private in G co., 12th Calvary of TN.

I have a paper copy of a letter writen to William from his youngest brother Samuel Andrew Jackson Mallicoat (in Dec 1864), who was Union, he was in Battery J 2nd MO light Art. The Mallicoats were mostly Union. William Crawley and a few other Mallicoats stayed in TN when his father and most of his family moved to MO. Another brother to William was Mora a Pvt. in D co. 1 MO., his sons Wm Pvt co. D 5th MO Regt Infty Vol under capt Lemmon, another son John C. was Pvt. Co. D 5th MO Regt Infty Vol.

This family came from VA (York, Warwick, Isle of Wight, Pittsylvania) and before that England, have some information on that. I am in the process with other Mallicoats of checking out the story that the Mallicoats came from Scotland. Also looking into which of the Mallicoats were in the War of 1812.
