c.c.layfield served under gen. henry l. benning . he was in co. h. 17th ga. "harris bartows" he became a pvt. 1st may 1862 . he was wounded in the 2nd manasses va. also served at gettysburg pa. 3rd july 1863, chickamauga ga.19th. sept. 1863. ....16th aug.1864 was appointed third sgt. he was captured along with many other members with the 17th. ga. including both of his brothers in fort harrison va. 30th sept1864.he later was paroled at point look out md,and transferred to aikens landing virgina for exchange 17th march 1865.
