Error Message "Can't Open the Internet Site"
When you push the Online button in FTW, the program will launch your browser and give it a URL (web address) to go to. The browser will open and go to that address. If you are not connected to the Internet at that time, most browsers are configured to automatically launch your dial-up connection and connect you to the Internet so it can then go to the site.
But if your browser is not configured to connect you automatically, you will get the following error message:
Cannot open the Internet site
http://www.familytreemaker.com/cgi-bin/ftwuser.cgi?ver=32fald9a&uid=(some 32 digit number). The site was not found.
What the browser is trying to tell you is that it has not found a connection to the Internet from your PC and therefore cannot connect to the site.
To get around this error message, follow these simple steps:
- Go online outside of Family Tree Maker
- Minimize your online connection then start up the Family Tree Maker program
- Click the online button and watch it connect
