How to Activate Your Free Genealogy Library Subscription

Simply insert the GenealogyLibrary CD that came with your FTW version 7 into the CD ROM drive. If you just installed Family Tree Maker, you will be taken to the Welcome screen for Genealogy Library.com. If you have never registered as a Family Tree Maker online user, click New Genealogy Library user. Fill out the registration form and click the Submit button when finished.

What if the CD doesn't start automatically?

In this instance, go to the Start Menu and click Run. Click the Browse button. Double-click the icon for your CD-ROM drive. Double-click on the GLC.exe file. Click OK in the Run dialogue. You will now see the same Welcome screen discussed above.

What if I still don't see the Welcome screen?

  1. Start Windows Explorer
  2. Make sure that the GeneallgyLibrary.com CD is in your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Look on your C: drive for C:\glc_v2
  4. If you see this folder look inside for an index.html file
Whether the GLC.EXE starts from the auto-run or if you execute it yourself, what it does is create the C:\glc_v2 directory, add the index.html file and then starts that file so whatever your default Windows Web browser is opens and views the file.
  5. If you see this directory and file, start Family Tree Maker
  6. Use the Online button to our World Wide Web site.
  7. Once you get to our Web site, go to use your Web browser's File menu and choose Open command to open C:\glc_v2\index.html
  8. You should see the link to activate the Genealogy Library subscription

I get a message that your site cannot verify my Online Account.

It is possible that you created your account with a different telephone number and zip code. Be sure to use the zip code and phone number you used when you originally registered with Family Tree Maker Online. If this is not the case or if you can't remember which numbers you might have used, please contact Technical Support.
