Linking a Book to Your Home Page
Family Tree Maker Version 4.4 or Later Customers Only

To link a book to your home page, Family Tree Maker must be running and you must have an open connection to the Internet via your Web browser. Complete directions are below. Also note that:

Your home page can only link to one book. Adding a new one will simply replace the old one.
Due to the current limitations of the HTML language used to display information on the Web, the format of your book may look very different on the Web than it does within Family Tree Maker. Some formatting options, like colors and borders, may not transfer to the Web at all.
In addition to the book, your home page can have links to:

Up to five genealogy reports, including Outline Descendant Trees, Custom reports, and Genealogy reports (Register, NGS Quarterly, and Ahnentafel)

A box-style InterneTree^TM.

Photos (.jpg and .gif format)

Other Web sites

GEDCOM trees

.txt and .html files

Please keep in mind that the Internet is a public forum. Any information you provide will be available to anyone who has access to the Internet.

Using Version 8.0 or Later?

With Family Tree Maker open, you can simply navigate to the new Publishing Center (from the Toolbar, or from the View menu) for fast, easy access to all of the features described on this page.

To publish a book from your Family File on the Internet:

From the View menu, select Books.
Open the book you want to publish on the Internet.
From the Internet menu, select Go Online.
Family Tree Maker opens your Web browser, connects you to your Internet service provider, and takes you to the FamilyTreeMaker.com Web site.
Click Family Tree Maker on the Windows 95 taskbar or press Alt + Tab to switch back to Family Tree Maker.
From the Internet menu, select Publish Book to the Internet.
Family Tree Maker displays the Publish Book on Internet dialog box.
Click OK to continue.
Family Tree Maker displays a status bar while the book is being copied to your home page. As the transfer is beginning, Family Tree Maker also displays a dialog box asking whether you want to contribute your Family File to the World Family Tree Project.
If you have already checked your Family File for errors and want to contribute it to the World Family Tree Project, click Yes. Otherwise, click No.
If you selected "No," Family Tree Maker returns to the previous view in Family Tree Maker. Family Tree Maker displays a confirmation dialog box when the transfer is complete.
After you finish reading the message, click OK.
The title of your book soon appears as a link on your home page. Click the link to view your book. Note: When you first upload your book, it may take several hours for it to appear on your home page. Do not forget to close your Internet connection when you are done exploring the Internet. Depending on your setup, you may need to close both your browser and the connection to your service provider.
