Linking an InterneTree to Your Home Page

To link an InterneTreeTM to your FamilyTreeMaker.com home page, Family Tree Maker must be running and you must have an open connection to the Internet via your Web browser. Complete directions are below. Also note that: You can only have one InterneTree. Adding a new one will simply replace the old one. It is best to have fewer than 500 people in your InterneTree. Otherwise, people using slower computers may not be able to view your tree. When you create your InterneTree, use Family Tree Maker's Individuals to Include command to only include select branches. In addition to the box-style InterneTree, your home page can also have links to: A Family Tree Maker book Up to five genealogy reports, including Outline Descendant Trees, Custom reports, and Genealogy reports (Register, NGS Quarterly, and Ahnentafel) Photos (.jpg and .gif format) Other Web sites GEDCOM trees .txt and .html files Please keep in mind that the Internet is a public forum. Any information you provide will be available to anyone who has access to the Internet.

Using Version 8.0 or Later? With Family Tree Maker open, you can simply navigate to the new Publishing Center (from the Toolbar, or from the View menu) for fast, easy access to all of the features described on this page.

To link an InterneTree to your home page:

1. Start your Family Tree Maker software if it is not already running. If you are already at FamilyTreeMaker.com, skip to step 3 below.

2. Start your Internet service provider. To start it from within Family Tree Maker, click the Online toolbar button.

3. Once you have opened a connection to the Internet, press Alt + Tab to switch back to Family Tree Maker.

4. Open the Family File from which you want to create an InterneTree.

5. From the Internet menu in Family Tree Maker, select Publish Family Tree on the Internet. (For Family Tree Maker 4.0 users, this function is on the File menu).

6. When Family Tree Maker asks if you want to publish your tree online, click Yes to continue, or No to cancel.

   Family Tree Maker displays the Include dialog box.

7. Select the individuals you want to include and then click OK.

   Family Tree Maker transfers the tree to your home page. When the transfer is complete, Family Tree Maker displays a dialog box asking whether you want to contribute your Family File to the World Family Tree project.

8. If you have already checked your Family File for errors and want to contribute it to the World Family Tree Project, click Yes. Otherwise, click No.

   If you chose "Yes," Family Tree Maker begins the contribution process. If you chose "No," Family Tree Maker returns to the previous view in Family Tree Maker.

9. Don't forget to end your Internet session. Depending on your setup, you may need to close both your browser and the connection to your service provider.
