Not much is known about James. He was still living in Newberry Co. during the 1820's, but by 1840 he was married and living in Anderson Co., SC. His wife died either in childbirth or soon after the birth of James Martin. the father took the two children to Georgia and left them with a friend. the children never saw him again and never knew what happened to him.
