My name is Ian James Hextall
I was born June 1953 in Coalville, Leicestershire I have been researching my family name and history for several years now, as a young lad I do remember asking my family why are we the only Hextall`s living around here (there were no one other than my immediate Hextall's family members living in our district) and where does my Hextall surname come from? You guessed right nobody in the family had a clue. So really from a young age I have always had an interest in family genealogy and our family history.
I left my home town of Coalville in March 1974 aged 21 and moved to small village in Scotland called Denny, Stirlingshire the move was for me to be closer to my then girl friend a real bonnie Scottish lassie called Jean Owens we met while on holiday in Spain Sept 1973. A real Danny & Sandy (Grease) affair (bu-ut oh those su-ummer nights) lol.
In Sept 1975 we were married in a lovely old parish church in Denny, we went on to have three children Cheryl, Michelle, and Liam they are all grown and away from home now.
I started my working career as a narrow fabrics weaver ( maker of nicker elastic ) but in my later life went on to be a chief engineer and health and safety officer with a large international company. I have now taken early retirement do to ill health Jean and I are still living in Denny.
I am carrying out a one name family history research study and building up as much interesting information about the name Hextall as possible spelling variations of this family name include: Hextall Hextale, Heckstall, Heckstal, Extall, Extell, Extale, Hexstall, Exstall, Heckstall, Heckstal and Hextell.
I would like to think that all off my fully filed and computerized data would become a free reference point for anyone wishing to gain information about their own Hextall family roots and history.
I now have collected many interesting family history details and photos about my family name with data going back to the 12th Century.I have around 965 marriage's and over 3,500 connected Hextall family members in my Familytree with branches located in the English County's of Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, London and West Riding of Yorkshire. My own family branch is from the County of Leicestershire.
So far I have kept in touch with Hextall’s families from all over the U.K; I also keep close links with Hextall families around the world all with their branches returning back to and connecting with my own Familytree I.e. Families in Canada, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
A lot of this information if not most is not to be found on any web site and never will be via myself and it is my wish that any information I may supply to you wont be added to Pay per view sites or posted on the Internet and is kept for personal family use only. I don't wish anyone to make a financial gain from this gathered data.
I have and do spend long hours as you may note from the timing of this email, carrying out research on this hobby/quest of mine.
I must add that without the help, guidance and data input during my early years from senior friends Keith Hextall (Sapcote, Leic's) & Frank Hextall (Barford, Warwick sadly no longer with us), and contributions from branch family members my research would have been so much harder.
I was hoping that you would like to help in acquiring some details that I may add to my family research data. I.e. Your family member's connections, old family photos, interesting family history stories. Please note that permission must be given if you are supplying details of a living family members remember this information is for your family branch and your own Hextall Family generations yet to come. I do not pass any family data to Hextall's out with your family branch unless you first give me permission to do so.
Did you know the Hextall name has Royal links with the first of the Royal Tudors dynasty Henry VII and his famil
