John H. Ackerman was taken out of school after fifth grade as his help was "needed" to work the farm. After marriage, John and Margaret lived with H.V. And Mary for "awhile" and then moved to a farm in Pequannock Twp. They were on this farm only about a year or so when H.V. bought the farm in Washington Twp. Morris County (Drakestown, or Schooley's Mountain) John and Margaret moved to this farm. It was a "general" farm and and hogs were raised for sale. In lieu of rent, John cut cordwood which his father sold. In 1942 John H. moved to "South" Paterson and took a job for wages in a "defense plant" (Wright Aeronautical Plant No. 2)
