LAURENTS b about 1650 at Geffen, near Den Bosch; bp 12 Jun 1650 there, named for g/gf. m 3 Aug 1679 RDC Bergen NJ (now Jersey City) to Geertje Egberts of (New) Albany, NY. Lawrence was 12 years old upon arrival at New Amsterdam; at 18 he moved to Fordham, just North of the city, and rented a farm from Jan Archer. The lease is dated 31 Aug 1668. By 1679 he moved to Bergen, NJ where he was married by R. Van Giezen who was Voorleezer of the church (a prelector or reader) in the presence of the Court. This considered quite an honor in those days. On 2 Apr 1679 Lourus Ackierman and on 23 Jun 1679 Geertje Egberts had joined the Bergen NJ Ref Dutch Ch. One of the NJ patentees, Jacques La Roue and Lawrence Ackerman paid Quit Rents on a tract of land, 300 acres at Tappan, NY in 1683f or the three years 1680 - 1683. In 1689 he purchased a large tract of land in Bergen County NJ starting near Little Ferry, extending from the Hackensack River to the Saddle River. The old homestead was at Polifly, near what is now called Woodbridge, NJ a little east of the main road, and under the brow of the hill. It was torn down many years ago and in 1915 the only thing left to mark the spot where it once stood, was an old well and a few straggling stones and bricks. This property was bought from John Berry, for seventy-five pounds current money of the Province of East New Jersey, royalties excepted, with an annual payment of nineteen shillings for ever, on the 25th day of March of each and every year, as quit claim rent, current money of this Province. The deed for the above is dated March 10, 1689 the boundaries as follows; "lying and being between the Hackensack and Saddle Rivers, now in the possession of said Lawrence Ackerman, containing in Breadth upon said Hackensack River nine chains and sixty links to run from thence along the bounds of Garret Van Dien on a West Northwest course until it comes over the fresh meadows on the Northern side thereof and from thence Northwest unto the Saddle River along the bounds of said Garret Van Dien and from that said bounds to run seventeen chains in a straight line along Saddle River on a Southwest course on a straight line unto the bounds of Abraham Ackerman the same to run the breadth aforesaid in a southeast course unto the Northwest side of the aforesaid fresh meadows and from thence East Southeast all along between the bounds of Garret Van Dien and Abraham Ackerman unto the River Hackensack, except where the same butts and comes to the bounds of David Proust and Harmon Bras where the said Lawrence Ackerman's bounds is to end for their breadth Containing in all of upland and meadow two hundred ninety-five acres English Measure."
