Justus was the sixth child of Anton and Anna {Pfaffenbach} Brehm. He came to the United States in 1875 when he was forty-seven years old. They settled in Iowa. They went to live with the Jacob Brehm family in 1900. Freida {Brehm} Geiken remembers her brother, Louie, filling Grandpa's pipe, and how he often harnessed the horse to the buggy so Grandpa Brehm could go to town. Martha Brehm died in 1904 at the age of seventy, but Justus continued to live with the Jake Brehm family near Newhall, Iowa, until they moved to Van Horne in March of 1913. He then went to live with his daughter and her family, Anna and Lewis Schlotfelt, until he died at the age of ninety.
