Anita Strickland's connection toThornton, Williams, Strand,Updated January 22, 2006 | |
| My Family History is ten years of work. A little at a time. When I started, I only knew my grandmothers names, and nothing else. I wanted to know where my family came from and if there are any living members. I am still working on my tree and I know now, most likely, will never get it finished. The STRICKLAND's and the CANTELO's started in England and arrived around 1854-56 in the US. Richard Strickland married to Harriet Cantelo in 1853, As far as I know, Richard never came to the USA. I haven't been able to find anymore information on Richard. Harriet's first son, Frank Cantelo Strickland was born also in 1853 in England. The ''family lore story'' is that Harriet Cantelo Strickland, and Samuel Bennett, both married people ran away and came to the United States. This is what my grandmother Bessie told me. I located the family living in the 1960 census living together and they had another son named Percy' and were living in what now is West Chicago. They moved away the year of the "great fire". Samuel worked for the railroad and traveled from town to town until reaching Athol Idaho were they settled. They were part of the first settlers to Athol. Robert WILLIAMS first showed up in 1855 in Janesville WI. He was born in Wales, about 1800-1815. His death records say 1815 but the census says 1810. I do not know where he lived before Janesville. He was in the Mexican War, 1846-1848, and was wounded. He mustered in at Indiana,so I thought he might have been living there. His first wife was Amoretta. She died in 1869 and he remarried within three months to Elizabth Hanna Piatt. Hanna as she was called was a widow and had a son named Edwin Travis. Robert lived out his life in Janesville WI. I have been unable to find their ship records and no trace of Richard Strickland. I have found Internet Cousins, and they have added information for their family records. I am very gratefull. Also I have gotten help from "on-line friends". There will be a special place in Heaven for you!! In the last couple of months I have connected with living family members of long lost Families! What a blessing!! I would love to hear from a relative or anyone that has any family folk lore or facts. I have many very evasive ancesters, and I will continue to search for them! |
