Also, Deputy Sheriff. He was trusted government servant from the town of Santo Stefano, provence of Giurgeoste, Sicily, Italy. He journeyed from St. Stephano to Palermo monthly to bring goverment properties entrusted to him. He also carried the mail. This was done with horse and wagon or with mules.Made USA citizen 4/11/1904

According to Emily Tantone, Giuseppina's grand-daughter, Giuseppe Adamo was a peddler. He traveled from village to town selling household goods such as pans, needles, and brooms. He had a cart and a mula (mule) that occupied the ground floor of their house. From time to time other animals also were roommates of the mula. Usually a lady goat was kept for milk, and there were chickens. It must have smelled nicely in those hot summer days when the breeze wafted the perfume up to the living quarters. How many rooms there were for people I do not know.

Life was hard and very primitive. Giuseppina had to go fo the fountain in the piazza for water several times a day. For entertainment they went to church. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? But they did have some social life, festas on saint's days, weddings, funerals and events like these. Giuseppina used to tell her grand-daughter that her father was very respected because he was a businessman.

The main source of employment in Santo Stefano was agriculture. The town, now as then, is surrounded by small farms. Inasmuch as the area is rocky and has poor soil, the living to be made from it was sparse. The Messina family, however, had a good-sized piece of land. When Emily and John Tantone visted Santo Stefano, they were told there were some Messinas still living there.

According to Art Adamo, Francisco did harness and leather tooling. Hand made saddle harneese, and any leather articles such as boots, belts, purses. Anything leather. Deputy sheriff. He was trusted government servant from the town of Santo Stefano, province of Agrigento, Sicilia. He jurneyed from Santo Stefano to Palermo monthly to bring back government properties entrusted to him and mail. This was done by horse and wagon or mules.
