Edward G. Adams (son of John T. Adams and Patience Garretson) was born Aug 04, 1840 in Monroe County, Malaga Township, Ohio, and died Sep 02, 1893 in Linden, Dallas County, Iowa. He married (1) Nancy Jane Clevenger on Dec 07, 1865 in Randolph County, Indiana5, daughter of John Clevenger and Nancy Shockley. He married (2) Mary Catherine Painter on Jul 29, 1883 in Randolph County, Indiana, daughter of Adonijah Painter and Sarah Cox.

Edward G. Adams, Was b. in Monroe Co., OH, Aug. 4, 1840, to John Q. and Patience (Garretson) Adams. John and Patience were m. Oct. 5,1838 in Sunbury, OH, John was the son of Thomas and Lydia Adams of Monroe Co., OH. Patience was the daughter of John and Henrietta Garretson also of Monroe Co.,OH. They were all of Quaker faith.
When they moved to Randolph Co. is not known but Edward joined the Calvary and was a private in Co. C. 39th Reg. of Indiana Volunteers. He joined Aug. 11, 1861 and was discharged on Nov. 4, 1862, the reason for discharge was organic disease of the heart. He did serve at Shiloh and Nashville, TN. Edward was 20 years old when he joined the Army.
After his discharge Edward was a farmer in Randolph Co. He m. Nancy Clevenger on Dec. 4,1865 in Winchester, IN. The parents of Nancy have never been proven. It is stated in the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, compiled by William Hinshaw of Indiana records that Nancy's parents were John and Nancy Clevenger.
Edward and Nancy had six children: Rosetta A.(Nov. 16, 1866); Martha Jane(Sept. 25, 1868); Charles E.(Oct 17,1870); Preston D.(birthdate not known); Julia A. (Feb. 20, 1873); and George W.(June 30,1878). Martha Jane m. David Sherman McGuire (See McGuire history).
Nancy d. Sept.2, 1893 at 33 years old. She is buried at Cedar Friends Cemetery located a couple of miles from Farmland in Stoney Creek Twp. She has no stone but a mortuary marker states that Meeks Mortuary of Muncie, IN buried her.
Edward went on to m. widow, Mary Shanks, on July 29, 1883 in Randolph Co. They had three children: Noah (Sept. 12,1884), Nathan A.(Feb. 27,1886) and John E. (Jan. 30, 1889). We know that Noah was b. in Randolph Co.,IN but don't know where Nathan and John were born.
Edward and Mary moved to Linden, Dallas Co., IA where Edward d. Sept. 2, 1893. He was buried in Linden.
According to his discharge papers, when Edward was 21 his physical description was that he was five foot and seven and one-half inches tall and that he had a light complexion, dark hair and blue eyes.
NOTE:
The date of Nancy Clevenger Adams death is wrong, she died on Sept. 21, 1880 from disease of the liver. And she has a stone marking her grave along with the marker from Meeks Mortuary.

Edward Adams, Co G 8th IND Cav. is buried with a stone in West Linn Cemetery, NE of Linden in Linn Township.

Declaration For Invalid Army Pension November 2, 1874
Edward Adams 34, Farmland, Indiana Enlisted at Porland Jay County, on 29th of August 1861 in the 39 Regiment of Ind Vol. and was honorably discharged at Nashville State of Tenn, on the 4th of November 1862 states that while in the line of duty at Mumfordsville Kentucky in December 1861 he contracted a severe cold before fully recovering from the Measles which caused the same to settle in the lungs which has disabled him from said date, Also at Shiloh on or about the 28th of April 1862, he contracted Chronic Diarrhea which has continued to disable him by frequent and severe attacks up to the present time. That he is greatly disabled and asks a Pension. That he was treated in hospitals at Mumfordsville Ky and Huntsville Ala. He was no longer in the service since August 31, 1865.
Witnessed by Ancil B. Tinsley of Muncie and John A. Thornburg of Windsor, both swearing they have known Edward Adams for 16 years and that prior to enlistment he was a farmer and since leaving service his occupation has been farming.
