Notes for John T. Adams: Obituary: The Bluffton Evening News, Wednesday,January 28,1925 JOHN T. ADAMS VETERAN, DIES TODAY DEATH OCCURS AT HOME AT PONETO AT 1 O'CLOCK THIS MORNING John T. Adams, 81 years old, Civil War veteran and a member of the G.A.R. died this morning at 1 o'clock at his home in Poneto, where he was one of the most highly esteemed residents. Death was due to general debility. Mr Adams was born in Athens County, Ohio, May 22, 1843, a son of John T. Adams and Mrs. Patience Garrettson Adams. His marriage to Mary A. Pace, who survives, took place in Well County on June 10. 1876. An adopted son, Oscar Wall Adams died in 1897. Mrs. Effie Bell Bower and F.O. Pace lived with Mr. and Mrs. Adams at one time, and also the following nieces of Mr. Adams: Doris, Olive, and Rosie Morickel. Mr Adams had been a resident of this county 50 years. Two sisters who survive are Mrs. Hannah Thornburg of Bluffton and Mrs. Margaret Gable of Selma. Four brothers and three sisters are deceased. He was a member of the United Brethren church. During the war he enlisted as a private in the 15th Indiana Battery, Light Artillery, the date of his enlistment being June 10, 1862. He was discharged on July 10, 1865.
