Azariel Blanchard (son of William Blanchard and Sarah Cowles) was born July 13, 1741, and died 1818. He married (1) Abigail Mason, daughter of John Mason, Major. He married (2) Eunice Culver. He married (3) Thankful Peck. He married (4) Sarah Smith on July 11, 1782.

Azariel was a Colonel in the Revolution. He was on duty in the vicinity fo Ethan Allen's famed "Green Mountain Boys" in 1776, and in Ephriam Buells Company, Vermont 1779-1780. The 1790 census of Vermont, sustantiates his residence in Vermont prior to moving to New York. He resided in New Haven Township, Addison County. His brother, Asahel, settled in the same township in 1775. The father, William, and other brother William were charter members, along with Asahel in the Grand Isle, Vermont grant, issuted October 27, 1779. His brother William, also was a charter member in the grant of Isle LaMotte. He enlisted at Pollet, VT., 1777 in the Connecticut Regiment and served as a Lieutenant during the war of 1812. Upon his return he became prominent in the affairs of the village of Cuyler. He married Sara Smith, July 11, 1782. After the war, Azariel located in Truxton, NY. He also took part in the war of 1812 under General Starke. He was 71 years old at the time. (His gravestone is in Keeney Settlement Cemetary, Fabius, Onondaga County, NY.)

"In Memory of Azariel Blanchard. He Di'd March 27, 1818, in the 77 years of his age. Death is a debt to nature due, which I have paid/And so must you/Here we must lie/Beneath the tomb/Till Jesus Christ/In glory comes."
The volume "Vermont in the Revolution" refers several times to the services of Azariel Blanchard.
