The following is quoted from E-mail message dated December 22, 1998 from Ronny Bodine, Columbus, Georgia:
"Returning to Singleton Howell, I wonder if you are familiar with a former slave of Henry Hawkins Owsley that he apparently gave to his daughter Julia. The slave was named Robert or Bob and was born in March, 1844 in Kentucky. He was living in Milton County, Georgia from 1870 to 1920 and seems to have been buried in the African-American Cemetery in North Fulton County, Georgia along with other family members. What is interesting about this is that he took the name Robert Ousley, a name retained by his descendants. I have not pursued this a much as I would like to yet. I imagine his ownership can be determined from the slave schedules. Since Harry Owsley moved to Illinois in 1851 and could not take his slaves with him, he would have had to give the slave to his daughter by that time."
