GEMS is an acronym for GILLESPIE, EPERTHENER, MARTIN & SKERMER.Most of our ancestors came from England, France, Ireland and Scotland and some eventually settled in Western Pennsylvania. Henry Gillespie was born in Ireland around 1785.He and his wife Mary had five children and their son, Henry Gillespie came to the US when he was 25 years old.He married Elizabeth Martin, the daughter of John Martin and Elizabeth Dodds.Their son, William Henry, was my grandfather and he was born in 1867 in a log cabin near Edinburg, PA.He married Leanore Eperthener, daughter of Hypolite Eperthener in 1901.Louis Eperthener was born in France in the early 1800's.He later moved to England where he married Augustine Bregy.Their son, Hypolite, was my Great Grandfather and he married Elizabeth Skermer.Our Skermer ancestors go back to the 1520's at the birth of John Skermer He died in Belton, England in 1582. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.
