2. ZADOCK T SR3 NEWMAN (JOSEPH SR2, UNKNOWN1) was born April 30, 1790 in Madison Co. , Pennsylvania, and died September 24, 1864 in Mt Vernon, Lawrence Co., Mo. He married (1) MARTHA EWING August 09, 1810 in St Clair Co., ILL per/ ISA. She was born February 28, 1790, and died April 08, 1828. He married (2) SARAH E COTTER NEE KENDALL October 09, 1828 in Madison Co., ILL. Lic # 006/001700000660, daughter of SAMUEL KENDELL and SUSANNA TAYLOR. She was born July 16, 1797 in Pennsylvania, and died March 11, 1851 in Lawrence Co., Mo. He married (3) MRS. MARTHA SMITH WILLIAMS March 28, 1852 in By A A Young MG Page 521 Mt Vernon, Lawrence, Co., Mo., daughter of JOHN WILLIAMS and ABIGAL SMITH. She was born December 03, 1806 in Maury Co., TN, and died August 25, 1888 in Mt Vernon, Lawrence Co.,Mo.

ADOCK T SR NEWMAN:
Zadock went to Illinois as a young man.
Martha died and Zadock married Sarah she was the widow of Abner Cotter Sr.
Sarah had five sons by Abner when she married Zadock the oldest being nine years old at the time.
Zadock raised these children.

In 1840 Zadock moved to Lawrence Co., MO., and lived there to be seventy-five years of age.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He was a Repbulican.

He was a soldier in the War of 1812, and was in several fights with the Indians.

He was a nurseryman and a farmer, and owned at one time over 800 acres of land.

He was married three times his third wife being Mrs. Martha Roberts, a widow, who, when she married Zadock had five small children, who Zadock raised and provided for. He also reared several other children.
Ewing was his first wife.

Zadock owned a fine library and was considered the best read ,man in history, at that time in Lawrence Co., Mo

George W Kendall was born in Evansville, ILL May 15, 1830. When a lad of ten years he came to Lawrence Co., Mo (1841), with Zadock Newman, who was the first nurseryman in Southwest Missouri, and who wife was the aunt of young Kendall.

From the History of Madison Co., ILL
Zadock Newman was a native of Pennsylavina as also was his father before him. His grandfather was a native of Ireland and emigrated to America during the colonial days. He reared a large family of children. Of his seven sons six settled in the southern states. Joseph was was a boat maker came west in 1804 and located in Madison Co., ILL. (for particulars see History of Fort Russell Township).
Zadock Newman, his son, was in his fifteenth year when he brought his family to ILL.
He remained at home and received a fair education for those days.
He taught school for some time, but farming was his chief occupation.
He remained in Madison Co. until 1840, when he removed to Missouri and settled in Lawrence Co., where he spent the remainder of his days, and died there in 1864.
During the Indian troubles in the early history of this state and during the war with Great Britain in 1812, he was in the ranger service and helped put down the marauding bands of Indians who threatened the settlement of Illinois. In the year of 1810 he married Martha Ewing whose father was one of the early pioneers of this territory. There were six children by that reunion two sons and four daughters.
There names are Lousia, who died in infancy, Eliza wife of Joel Johnson, a well known hotel keeper of Springfield, ILL., Julia A married Alva Beecher, J Russell, William E and Emily M who married William Graves. The two sons are now the only survivors of the family.

Zadock Newman 1790-1907 WI Land Records

Newman entered land in sections 23 and 26, Twp., 28, Range 26, in 1840 and in Section 25, Twp., 28, Range 26 in 1854. Addition purchase were made later and it is said he owned over 800 acres of land at one time.

The Newman family record recently surfaced at the estate sale of the late Bill Turk of Mt. Vernon.

Letters were granted on his estate 2-1-1865. there is no affifavit or list of heirs, although there is an unmarked paper in this file with at list of the following: __________ Newman, Russell, Z.T., Susan M. Martin, Rebecca King, C.F. McCanse, Mrs Beecher, Mrs Graves heirs, and Edward Johnson. The last three have not been positively identified by the editor. Johnson is probably the son of Eliza C., who married Joel Johnson: The other two are likely daughters.

Tunnell, Miami, Ok 74354. Ed Note: The Newman's were an early and prominent family here. This Bible recorders records never previously found.
