The Kessler/Hauptman family were from the Austrian Hungarian Empire. Rose Hauptman (1895-1942) and Morris Kessler (1890-1968) were married around 1914. Shortly after, Morris went off to war never knowing that Rose was pregnant with their first child. Rose Hauptman Kessler and her son Sam Kessler (1915-1942) came to NYC on September 11, 1920 when Sam was 5. Morris arrived the following year. Rose and Morris had three additional daughters, Florence (1923-26), Gladys (1925-) and Marilyn (1930-). They lived in the Williamsburg Section of Brooklyn.
Sam Kessler married the American born Alice Basch (1917-2000) in 1938. Their marriage ended with his death in 1942. They had one child, Glenda born in 1940. Alice was of Hungarian descent on her father's side and Russian on her mother's. Alice remarried in 1947 and gave birth to Alan (1948) and Martin (aka Shukradev Ishaya) Sorsher in 1950.
Glenda married Martin Adelman on September 6, 1958. They had four children: Jill born in 1961, married Gregory Asch in 1983; Beth born in 1963 married Christopher Clarke in 1985; Charles born in 1965 married Joanna Radziewicz in 1993 (ending in divorce in 2005); and Steven born in 1968 married Pamela Haley in 1993. The offspring of their children are Peter (1984), Robin (1986), Benjamin Asch (1988), Ashley (1987), Alexander (1996-96), Angela Clarke (1998,); Rachel (1994), Eric (1996) and Marisa Adelman (1998); Jordan (2000) and Jessie (2005) Adelman.
Alice's parents, Sam Basch (1891-1933) and Celia Fleischer (1895-1964), married on June 12, 1913 and had three children, Beatrice (1914-1999), Alice (1917-2000) and Arthur (1925-). Their marriage certificate states that Sam was born in Marmos, Hungary and Celia in Podolo, Russia. We know little about Sam Basch's family, most of whom stayed in Europe. His father was Mayer Basch and his mother's name was Eva Deutch.
Celia's parents, Benjamin Fleischer(1873-?)and Beila Hoffman Fleischer (1875-1962)arrived in NYC around 1905 from Russia with their children: Celia, Henrietta (1900-1932), and Barney (1902-1981) and had additional children: Eva (1906-1998),Harry (1908-1978) and Lillie (b. 1914) in America. Benjamin left Beila about 1914, moved to NJ and had other children with another woman. I have no links to the "second" Fleischer family.
