Other spellings of name are: Gregg, Gragg. In 1791 went to Highland County, VA. Early immigrants to Pendleton County were Thomas and William gragg. It is not certain that they are related. It is probable that Philip is descended from one of them. In 1781 a party of Indians led by a white man, went to the house of William Gragg, his daughter was scalped and died and the house was set on fire.

He married Flora Crummett (d/o Christopher Crummett and Anna Regina Elisabeth Unknown) in 1791 in Pendleton county.

History of Highland county, VA. by Mildred M. Varner Collins: In 1700's John and Ester Groff came from Alsace, France. Their son Ben went to Stark County, OH; son Godfrey went to Orange Co, NY; son Bartel went to Dauphin Co., PA and Henry went to VA. Ben of OH, Solomon of PA, Mary Snyder Grogg, Abraham D. and Ann Bowes Grogg went west and settled near Wheeling at Grogg Run and went into Stark Co., OH, and Stark Co., IN. Some to Chicago and Missouri.

Frances Fitzwater: Captain in Patterson's Company in 1794. She also lists Catherine Gragg who married George Sheets as a daughter of Philip and Flora.
