Many members of two Ayrshire families
immigrated to Michigan during the
1830's and 1840's. They were the family
of John Millikin and Jenette Reid of
Craigie by Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, Scotland,
and several children of John Morton and
Ann Wilson of the same village.
These families were early settlers of
"The Scotch Settlement" in Lapeer and
Macomb Counties in Michigan.
This web page contains descendancy charts,
family histories, and sources for further
information on these Michigan pioneers.
We hope to connect with Morton and Millikin
descendants, to share information and stories.

    Jean Millikin arrived in New York on the "Sarah & Arsillia" in May 1838 with her husband Thomas Morton and her sister Catherine Robb. (Photo taken circa 1860 when she was about 45 years of age)
  • Janette Reid Morton (1840-1910) (59 KB)
    Taken in 1859 when Janette was 19. She had recently recovered from typhoid fever and would marry David Lamond, Jr. within the same year.
  • David Lamond, Jr. (1828-1913) (6 KB)
    Photo taken ca. 1912, when David was visiting his son John Lamond in Texas. David immigrated to Michigan from Perthshire, Scotland in 1857. He married Janette Reid Morton in Lapeer County, Michigan in 1859.

    These are descendants of John MILLIKIN and Jenette REID of Ayrshire, Scotland and Lapeer County, Michigan. Many members of the family immigrated to Michigan in the 1830's and 1840's. John and Jenette, and many descendants, are buried in Scotch Settlement Cemetery near Almont, Michigan. Descendants still live in Lapeer County and Michigan.
