Houghton, Ruth M.
CASSVILLE Ruth M. Houghton, age 74, of Cassville, entered into eternal life with her family at her side, Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 8, 1929, in Lancaster, the daughter of Harry and Clara (Bryhan) Bossert. On July 19, 1947, she married Melvin Houghton at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Burton.
She loved birds and flowers, and enjoyed playing cards. Keeping her family well-fed was a priority for Ruth, and she was known for her wonderful poppy seed cakes. She dearly loved her family and friends. Ruth taught Sunday school at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Cassville, and was their financial secretary for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Mel Houghton, Cassville; four children, Ruth Ann (Stephen) Kundert, Madison, Deborah (David) Byrge, West Allis, Daniel (Leah Gaye) Houghton, Havana, Ill., and Mary (Randy) Hatlen, Lomira; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Louis Bossert, Cassville; a sister-in-law, Clarice Bossert, Greendale; her stepmother, Helen Bossert, Lancaster; a half-brother, Bruce Bossert, Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gainford and Harlyn Bossert; and her sister-in-law, Helen Bossert.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at 11 A.M. at ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH in Cassville with the Rev. Ruth Ann Shriver officiating. Burial will be in the Cassville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the MARTIN PAGE FUNERAL HOME in Cassville and at the church Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the service.
