Bet you are wondering where does the name Africa come from? That is what everyone asks including me. My husband’s family always said from Scotland and Ireland. The family looked Scottish with red hair, freckles, among other characteristics. I was also told a long ago that an ancestor was running faster than he was thinking and changed one letter of his name to make it Africa. For years I have collected articles on our families and bits of information on scraps of paper. A few years ago when we acquired a computer, I decided to get the information organized. That was a mistake. Now I wanted to know more. So I started the Hide & Seek search. The ancestors hide and I seek. With research and a great deal of LUCK, I discovered that Christopher Africa came to the USA about 1730 from the Kingdom of Hannover. A Kraut!!! For years, my husband the African teased me about my very german maiden name Eigenbrodt. Now I no longer have to listen to the Kraut jokes. I have had no success finding Christopher Africa before 1730. I would appreciate any help. |
