Judith "Julia" Tennant
----------------------------------

"Julia (or Judith as she was christined in 1901) accompanied her family from County Carlow to the Perth area of Lanark County in the summer of 1820. She was a typical Irish lass with dark hair and blue eyes and I would presume quite spirited. On arrival at their shanty on the 10th line she met James Thorn, who already settled on the 16th lot, Concession 11 of Drummond Twp just on the outskirts of the present village of Ferguson Falls.

Her older sister Eliza had recently married James Smith and was becoming established. The 1st shanty for the large family must have been a very primitive housing for it included by now her infant nephew George Ansley. The prospect of marrying James Thorn and having a loghouse to live in must have appealed very attractive to her by now. Against the wishes of her family of being married on such brief acquaintance Julia & James were married by Rev. William Bell of the Presbyterian Manse in Perth on Jan 22nd 1821. Family ties were broken as a result.

In 1850 James and Julia sold their 100 acre farm and moved to Kincardine Twp, Bruce County where the Canada Co. was opening the "Queens Bush"
