13. JAMES FINLEY15 AGNEW (JAMES14, JAMES13, JAMES12, JAMES11, JAMES10, ALEXANDER9, PATRICK8, ANDREW7, PATRICK6, ANDREW5, PATRICK4, QUENTIN3, ANDREW2, ANDREW1) was born November 06, 1802 in Venango Co., PA, and died August 21, 1878 in Emlenton, Agnew Mills, Pa. He married SUSAN MCKEE, daughter of THOMAS MCKEE and MARY PARKER.

Notes for J
AMES FINLEY AGNEW:
From the "History of Venango County", published 1890 by Brown, Runk & Co. Publishers:
"James F. Agnew established the first carding mill, on Richey's Run, two miles from its mouth. At the time of his death, August 21, 1878, he had been Postmaster for more than 50 years, and was probably the oldest Postmaster in point of service in the United States. The place was known as Agnew Mills."
A carding mill is a mill which processes wool or cotton into oriented strands in preparation for further processing for clothing. Richey's run is a creek or stream in Richland township named after the Richey family. Richland is also named after this family. James F. Agnew's son Parker Harris Agnew married Arabella Richey who was a decendant of these prominent Richey's. According to the 1850 Census it appears the Richey family including Arabella, age 4 at the time, was a nearby neighbor. This is based on the fact the two families appear on the same page of the Census (Door to Door Census).
