According to the State Archives of Norway (says Rev. Kaye Olson), Christen and Giertrud were not married. In the 1801 Norway Census, Christen is listed in Christians (Oppland) County, Lands Parish, Flubergs Hoved Sogn Sub-parish, Tingvold Farm. He is listed as aged 14, a pauper, and his occupation was Laegdslaem which is translated as "Recipients of assistance".
There is no record of an Ole or Ols on the Tingvold Farm at that time, but two of the wives of two "land cotters" were named Olsdtr which might indicate some relationship.
