| I am researching the Albanese family history originating in Caulonia, Italy. All of the individuals from previous generation are deceased and I am relying on the memory of my relatives in Florida, Kentucky, California, Ohio, and West Virginia. My paternal grandparents story begins in this country in Syracuse, NY where they established residency sometime after they arrived with their family in 1897 . Ilario - Papoo as we called him - owned a hotel and later a restaurant and bar there until the BLACK HAND wanted protection payments and he said no. At that point his wife said we are moving. She lost her first husband in Italy to the BLACK HAND and she didn't want to go through that again.They relocated to Piedmont, West Virginia. Like so many others he lost everything in the stock market crash in 1929. He later retired as a trackman from the B&O Railroad. |
