Willam Alcock came to Australia in about 1833 from Staffordshire England. He married Catherine McNamara in Sydney in 1837.

He was a shepherd near Lake George when Thomas was a boy and later a gold miner in Stanley Vic with his Sons, John and Thomas, Some of the family went across to the Bega area whilst others stayed in NE Victoria, many of the later generations came to Melbourne
