UCRETIA JANE SPRIGG:
Obituary:
Lassen Advocate 30 March 1882. The Tomb. Chapman -- In Alturas, March
19, 1882, Mrs. Lucretia J. Chapman, aged 74 years, 4 months and 25 days.

Mrs. Lucretia J. Chapman was born in Baltimore, Maryland November
24, 1807 and came to California in 1859 locating in this valley [Honey
Lake] and residing here until August 1880 when she removed to Alturas,
where she has since resided. She leaves a large number of relatives in
this section. Mrs. A.A. Smith and Mrs. L.M. Slater are her daughters,
besides a large number of grandchildren who resides here. Also Mrs.
F.A. Sloss and F.S. Chapman of Alturas, J.S.Chapman of Los Angeles are
her children. Mrs. Chapman had lived a life of usefulness and Christian
purity, and was beloved by all who knew her. She had lived beyond the
allotted three score and ten years, and for the past year year before
her death had been failing rapidly. She was patient to the last and
during her six weeks' illness never murmured. She expressed a
willingness to die, and a firm faith in eternal life to come. She was
always ready and willing to help those in need, and many a sorrowing
heart has been cheered by her kind and loving words. She will be missed
by her many relatives and friends, they will listen for her loving voice
and motherly cheer, but it will never again be heard on this earth.
There is consolation in the thought that she lived a true Christian
life, and died as she lived, and when the summons come for those dear
ones left behind, they will meet her on that shore, where parting will
be no more.
