1. DUVERNIA¹ WHITE was born 28 Aug 1825 in South Carolina, and died 19 Aug 1904 in Tippah County, Mississippi. He married NANCY LITTLE, daughter of ISAAC LITTLE. She was born 30 Jul 1824 in Alabama, and died 01 Jun 1898 in Tippah County, Mississippi.

Notes for DUVERNIA WHITE:
Duvernia (in records his name is spelled many ways- Duverniah, Devernia, Deverney, Duvernor, etc!) enlisted in the Confederate Army on August 1, 1862, with the Co. E (Buncombe Fighting Cocks) Regiment Mississippi Calvary-later reorganized as 1 Regiment Mississippi Partisan Rangers. He enlisted at Ripley for a term of 3 years.

In the 1860 census, Tippah County, MS, Duvernia and family were farming. The value of Duvernia's land was $500. The name Duvernia was passed down by several of this children and their children; as well as the name Ralph Verdy.
Duvernia outlived his wife, Nancy, and lived out his final years on his farm with daughter Mary (Mary J. or Matilda Mary?- this Mary was born Aug 1859 so probably Matilda Mary??) son Isaac and his wife Georgia.

Mr. Devernia White
An aged and highly respected citizen of near Dumas died last Friday. Mr. White's health had been bad for some time and his eyesight had entirely left him. He served in the Mexican War under Jefferson Davis.
His remains were interred in the Hardin cemetery near Fellowship church
