1. *WILLIAM6 HAVILAND (*JAMES5, CHRISTOPHER4, JAMES3 DEHAVILLAND, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 07 Sep 1606 in Salisbury, England, and died 1688 in Great Neck, Li, NY. He married HANNAH HICKS in Newport, Rhode Island, daughter of JOHN HICKS and HOROD LONG. She was born Abt. 1638 in Newport, RI, and died 1712 in Great Neck, Li, NY.

*WILLIAM HAVILAND:
Baptised at St. Thomas's on Sept. 7, 1606.
William was the youngest son of James and Thomassine Haviland. James had
other children by a previous marriage. William emigrated to America cir.
1650, and is recorded as a freeman of Newport, Rhode Island, in 1653.
(There is a record of an
"Act and Order of the General Assembly at Newport, May 17, 1653.
'Freemen received of Newport: Benedict Arnold,...' - eventually became
governor - '...Joseph Torry,...' - a distant cousin of the Havilands -
'...William Haviland, and Jonathan
Mott'" ) On 21 May 1656 he is listed as a commissioner to the General
Court at Portsmouth, R.I., from Newport. After his marriage to Hannah
Hicks, he moved to Flushing, Long Island, cir. 1667, for in that year he
purchased 100 acres of land
from his brother-in-law, Thomas Hicks, on what is now Little Neck, (then
called "Cornbury"). In 1685 he signed the confirmation of the Patent of
Flushing.

  Notes for JACOB HAVILAND:
He is mentioned as an inhabitant of Flushing in 1711. Owned land
bordering his brother, Benjamin. NOT mentioned in the census of 1698.
Sold 200 acres in Harrison's Purchase, on Dec. 27, 1732, to his nephew,
Thomas Haviland.
