L-R: Guy Mitchell, son Donald Ray, Joe Trmmell, Babe Trammell, Uncle Alton and Uncle Cook Trammell. Pic taken about 1938-1942. Fish weighted 62 lbs. This was before I went into the service about 1938-1942, a bunch of us went fishing down below Koon Kreek spillway, before it goes into Lane's Lake. That's the last lake down south, a big lake, Long Lake is what we called it. We went down in the wagon and we were going to spend the weekend down there. There was Mama, Dad, my brothers, Woodrow, Uncle Alton, Guy Mithcell and his family, Aunt Savannah, well just about the whole family went. We were seining for fish to eat. Uncle Alton was dragging his feet up under the bank and something ran out. we didn't know at the time what it was. Anyway, it ran through the seine, made a hole in it and went on up the creek. This was just about the time they hollered it was time to eat. So we staked out the seine, we were gonna leave it till we got through eating and come back. So just about the time we were gonna leave, my brother, Byron said, "There's a log or something against the seine." He says "Hold it a minute." He reached over the seine and felt around down there and when he came up he had this fish by the mouth with both hands. Everybody grabbed a hold and picked him up and threw him out on the bank. We put a rope in his gills and carried him up to the spillway and staked him out and let him swim around all that evening till we got ready to go home. We skinned and quartered it and divided it up and everyboyd that was there go some. So that is where the fish came from. Also we caught an alligator that day but just threw him up on the bank. He was about 4 feet long. I guess he just went back into the lake after we left. This was told by Joe Trammell, Sr. to his daughter Peggy Trammell Allen on June 19, 2002.
