Originating in England, the Allen family settled in County Wexford, Ireland, probably following the Irish Confederacy Wars of 1641-53. The earliest documented ancestors are John Allen and his wife Mary Gibson. John was possibly the son of Elnathan Allen and Mary Suxsmith, and grandson of George and Susannah Allen. John and Mary's son Robert married Hannah Nunn, the daugther of Richard Nunn and Sarah Maddock. Robert and Hannah's son, Richard Nun Allen (1764-1828) and his first wife, Elizabeth Johnson emigrated to America, possibly in 1794. Richard eventually settled near Randallstown in Baltimore County MD. In 1812, following the death of his second wife, Dorothea Johnson, he wed Sarah Hughes (1793-1868). She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Dorothea’s sister, Mary, and a granddaughter of William Johnson of County Wicklow. Richard and Sarah’s children were:

1. Robert Thomas Pitcairn (m. Julia A. Dickinson)
2. Ebenezer N.
3. Richard Nun (m. Jannett Margaret Campbell)
4. William Henry
5. Dorothea Elizabeth (m. Jay Cooke)

Following Richard’s death, Sarah married Thomas Bond of Maryland. Their union produced a daughter, Adeline Allen (m. Dr. William Stump Forwood).

While a student at Allengheny College, in Pennsylvania, Richard Nun (1819-1899) married Jannett Margaret Campbell (1819-1895). From Cattaraugus Co. NY, she was the daughter of Hugh Campbell (1785-1865) and Emma Holmes (1783-1875). Upon graduation and passing the bar, Richard practiced law for a short time in Ohio, before he and Jannett settled at Farmdale, Franklin Co. KY, where he was the quartermaster of his brother’s military school, Kentucky Military Institute. Following the War of Rebellion the family moved to Bates Co. MO. Richard and Jannett’s children were:

1. Sarah Julia (m. John B. Batchelor)
2. Emma Jane
3. Dr. William Henry (m. Ara Julian Sims)
4. Robert Thomas Pitcairn ( 2nd m. Libba Katron)
5. Richard Nun (m. Tula Ann Moon)
6. Dr. Ebenezer N. (m. Myra Sidney Austin)
7. Hugh Campbell (m. Jennie Bales)
8. Jacob D. (m. Ira R. Wood)
9. Elizabeth Cooke (m. William C. Bewley)

In 1887, Richard Nun (1853-1915) married Tula Ann Moon (1857-1936), the daughter of Issac Deane Moon (abt. 1820-1884) and Martha Ann Jones (1823-1921) of Cass Co. MO. Richard and Tula Ann homesteaded in Olive Twp., Garfield Co., Oklahoma Territory, in November, 1898. Their children were:

1. Richard Nella (m. Fannie Mary Oakley)
2. Lewis Jones
3. John Langdon (m. Francis M. Kimmell)

Jeremiah Oakley (1786-1862) was born in New Jersey, the son of Thomas Oakley and Nancy Clark. He married Charity More (1789-1852) and their children were: Elizabeth, Henry More, Sarah, Daniel, Oreo, William C., Thomas A., and John More.

John More (1823-1866) married Mary Searfoss in Franklin County, Ohio, in 1847. Their children were: Joseph Trimble, Jeremiah, Sarah Jane, John Wesley, Daniel S., Mary E., Henry W., and John More.

Born in Toledo OH, and growing up in rural Howard Co. IN, John Wesley (1854-1914) accompanied his brother, Joseph to Kansas in the 1870’s. In 1878, he married Fannie Dora Brown (1858-1930) at Sedgwick City, Harvey Co. KS. The daughter of Crary Brown and Francis Harriett Smith, Fannie Dora was born in Alabama. She and John had known each other since their childhood in Indiana. At the opening of the Cherokee Outlet, on 9-16-1893, John staked a claim to a quarter-section of land northwest of the town of Perry in what became Oakdale Twp., Noble Co. OK. The township was named for him and his neighbor, Anderson Dale. It was here John and Fannie’s only child, Fannie Mary (1889-1961) married Richard Nella Allen in 1915 and reared their four sons.
