* Vermilion County Family Database*

Updated July 4, 2007

UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION - NEW 45,000 FAMILY TREE WILL BE UP SOON!

This effort started with my own Allison family...I loaded all those into Family Tree Maker, and loaded their wives, and their children, and their children's wifes, and their ancestors, and their descendants, and soon found that I'm my own 4th cousin (just kidding). But, I did find out that I'm related to about everyone I know in Danville!

It was quite surprising as I loaded names, dates of birth, parents, children, marriages, deaths and burials from all the many vermilion county publications into my tree, that we're all quite inter-connected. Folks began sending me additions, and photographs, stories, recipies of deceased aunts, photos of homes, photos of headstones, war photos, tin plates, it is quite amazing! The more we receive, the more I can interconnect families! As I watch the Danville obituaries, I am saddened that sometimes 1 in 4 belong to our tree, but the obituaries add more vital information regarding other family members, and our tree grows adding ancestors, siblings and decendants.

We now have 45,000 linked folks in what we now call "The Vermilion County Family Database" aka 'kinfolk'.

And now, thanks to my dear husband, Mike, who spent a day studying microfilm in Danville in June 24, 07, we have now found my elusive great grandmother Violetta (Johnson)Allison and her mothers's maternal Wikoff family from Ohio!! (10 years, over 45,000 folks and I couldnt find her...3 hours in Danville, and boom, he finds her!)

Please continue to send any information you want added or corrected....of course you will find errors...folks make errors...a lot of this info has been contributed...so we will all appreciate your fixes!

If you're willing to share, so are we. We will share all the info we have on deceased individuals, including all source notes, names of folks researching these same lines, their email addresses, etc. We've also loaded all the page numbers of different books at the Illianana Genealogical Society where you can find the names mentioned, including photos you never would have found otherwise!

Remember: Information on living individuals should NEVER be shared, especially over the internet, even if it was published in a local book. Please do NOT send information containing social security numbers, dates of birth, etc on any living individuals over the internet...it can lead to identity theft.

Please send genealogy reports via a genealogy report in text format in your email body, not as an attachment, to guard the database against viruses. Please mail copies of photos that you want added to the file via U.S. mail instead of via an attachment, again, to guard against viruses. I have a nifty scanner and can scan them into the file. I will send you photos and copies of certificates or files via email - just scan them for viruses at your end before you download them.

Need help - I am also able to do lookups as time allows, I have a few books about Danville/Vermilion County, etc., and am also a member of Ancestry/FamilyTreeMaker (national and world) if you have a Vermilion County Database ancestor that you need a lookup on, especially a census lookup! My kids are grown and its raining here in Florida constantly - what can I say, I LOVE THIS!

As I have more time, I hope to really "pretty up" this site and begin posting the photos and interesting stories and rotating them. Some make you smile, some make you cry. Our Danville area ancestors lived through some really hard times, as we may have ourselves. And, they lived through some purty great times too!

I hope studying your family's history brings you the joy and satisfaction it has brought me! And remember, please, I'm just a volunteer, and do this just for the fun of it, and to help you find your relatives. Enjoy!

If you wish to have your name removed from the alpha listing, please email me and let me know.

    This photo was taken in 1935 at Lincoln Park in Danville. Those majestic oaks are still there, while our dear loved ones are long gone. But, their memories and stories live on, and their little acorns and grown into a very large family!
