Mary Packer
1696 to May 15th 1785
THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Mary
Packer of the parish of Ash
Next Sandwich in the county of Kent, Widow, I being
of sound mind and memory.
First I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann
Claringbull the sum of Thirty
Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain. Also I
give and bequeath unto my
daughter in law Sarah Packer of Faversham, Widow,
the sum of Twenty Pounds of
like lawful money. Also I give and bequeath unto my
Grand Children William
Claringbull, Anne Honner and Jane Pilcher the sum
of Five Pounds apiece of
like lawful money. All which said Legacies I do
order and direct shall be paid
by my executor hereinafter named within three
months next after my decease.
Also I give and bequeath unto my servant Ann
Henton, if she shall be living
with me at the time of my decease the sum of Five
Pounds of like lawful money
to be paid by my executor hereinafter named within three
months next after my
decease. All the rest and residue of my Estate
whatsoever and wheresoever and
of what kind quality or nature vowel the same
consider be the time of my
decease after payment of my just debts, funeral
expenses and the charges of
proving this my Will I give and bequeath unto James
Neales of the parish of
Wingham in the said county of Kent, Peruke (Wig)
Maker and to his executors,
administrators and assigns and I do constitute and
appoint the said James Neales
sole executor of this my last Will and Testament
and hereby revoke all former
Wills by me made IN WITNESS where of I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this
First day of February in the Twentieth year of the
reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the Third by the grace of God of Great
Britain, France and Ireland,
King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the
year of our Lord One
Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty - The mark of Mary Packer - SIGNED, Sealed,
Published and Declared by the said Mary Packer the
testatrix as and for her
last Will and Testament in the presence of us who
at her request and in her
presence we have hereunto subscribed our names as
witnesses, Wm. JUDDERY & W.

THE before registered Will of Mary Packer deceased
was proved the Seventeenth day
of June 1785 before the Reverend John Gosling,
Clark, Surrogate to the
Worshipful William Scott, Doctor of Law, Commissary
General of the City and
Diocese of Canterbury, lawfully constituted by the
Oath of James Neales the sole
executor named in the said Will. He being first
sworn well and truly to
perform the same.

1734 to December 27th 1779
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Edward Packer of
Faversham in the county of Kent,
Basket Maker, being of sound and disposing Mind,
Memory and understanding
(Praised be Almighty God for the same) Do make
publish and declare this to be
my last Will and Testament in manner and form
following (that is to say) first
I give and devise all my Messuages or Tenements
with buildings, Land and
Appurtenances thereto belonging, situated, lying
and being in Faversham
aforesaid in a certain street there called
"West Street" and now in the
occupations of Thomas Page and me the said Edward
Packer. All of our Assigns
and also all that my money or half part the whole
or two equal parts to be
divided of and in all those two Messuages or
Tenements with the land and
Appurtenances to the same belonging, situated,
lying and being in the parish
of Minster, in the Isle of Thanet, in the County of
Kent and now in several
Tenures of Crow and Bax or their Assigns and all
other of my Messuages, Lands,
Tenements, Hereditaments, parts and shares of
Messuages, Lands, Tenements and
Hereditaments Undo my Dear and loving wife Sarah
Packer and her Assigns for
and during the term of her natural life, she and
they keeping all the same
premises in good and tenable
repair and form and after the decease of my
said wife Sarah Packer I do give and devise all my
said Messuages,
Lands, Tenements and Hereditaments Unto my sister
in law Mary Steed, who now
lives with me and her Assigns for and during the
term of her natural life, she
and they keeping all the same premises in good and
tenable repair and from
and immediately after the decease of my said sister
in law Mary Steed, I do
hereby give and devise all my said Messuages,
Lands, Tenements,
Hereditaments, parts and shares of Messuages,
Lands, Tenements and
Hereditaments whatsoever with their Appurtenances
Unto my four nephews,
William Claringbould, James Neale, Stephen Packer
and John Packer equally to
be divided between them share and share alike as
Tenants in common and not as
Joint Tenants and to their several and respective
Heirs and Assigns forever.
Also I give and bequeath Unto my sister Ann
Claringbould, widow and to my
nephews the said William Claringbould, James Neale,
John Packer, William
Stander and William Pilcher the sum of Five Pounds
apiece of lawful money of
Great Britain, also I give and bequeath Unto my
said nephew Stephen Packer the
sum of Ten Pounds of like lawful money. Also I give
and bequeath Unto my said
nephew John Packer the further sum of Ten Pounds of
like money as a small
gratuity for his care and trouble in managing and
carrying on the business that
now in for the benefit of my said wife Sarah Packer
and sister in law Mary
Steed during their respective lives that I request
and desire may be carried
on by them. Nevertheless it is my Will and mind
that he my said nephew John
Packer shall be paid his reasonable wages and
expenses for carrying on the said
business during the time aforesaid and I do hereby
order and direct that all my
said Legacies above mentioned shall be paid to my
said Several Legatees within
six calender months after my decease by my
executors hereinafter named and as
to the rest residue and remainder of my Ready Money
and Securities for Money
Stock in Trade Household Goods and Furniture,
Plates, Linen, China and all
other of my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever
and of what kind or nature
so ever the same shall consist of and and be at the
time of my decease and not
by me herein before disposed of (my just Debts,
Legacies, Funeral Expenses,
the charges of proving my Will and all other
incident expenses being first
herewith and there out paid and discharged) I give and
Bequeath the same and
every part thereof Unto my said loving wife Sarah
Packer and her Assigns for
and during the term of her natural life and from
and immediately after decease
I give and bequeath the same Unto my said sister in
law Mary Steed and her
Assigns for and during the term of her natural life
and after her decease I
give and bequeath the said residue of my Said
Personal Estate Unto my nephews,
William Claringbould, James Neale, Stephen Packer
and John Packer equally to
divided between them share and share alike and to
their several and respective
Executors, Administrators and Assigns. It is my and
mind and I do hereby order an
direct that all my said Stock in Trade with all my
Household Goods and
Furniture be fairly valued and appraised by two
indifferent persons as soon as
may be after my decease one person to be chosen by
my said wife Sarah Packer
and the other by my Executors hereinafter named and
I do hereby
nominate, constitute and appoint my said two
nephews, William Claringbould and
John Packer Executors of this my last Will and
Testament hereby revoking and
making void all former and other Wills by me at any
time heretofore made and
do publish and declare this only to be my last Will
and Testament IN WITNESS
whereof I the said Edward Packer the Testator have
to this my last Will and
testament set and affixed my hand and seal the
Twentieth Day of December in
the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and
Seventy Nine - Edward
Packer his mark - SIGNED, Sealed, Published and
declared by the said Edward
Packer the Testator as and for his last Will and
Testament in the presence of
us who at his request and in his presence of each
other have subscribed our

THE before Registered Will of Edward Packer
deceased was proved the 28th day
of December 1779 before the Reverend George Hearne
Clerk surr. To the
worshipful Francis Simpson, Doctor of Laws Official
General to the Reverend
the Archdeacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by
the oaths of William
Claringbould and John Packer the Executors named in
the said Will they being
first sworn and well and truly to perform the same.

1855
HIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me JOHN PACKER
of Milton Next
Sittingbourne in the County of Kent, Basket Maker.
I appoint my friend Stephen
Court of Milton aforesaid, Coal Merchant and my son
William Packer Trustees
and Executors of this my Will. I give and devise
and bequeath all my real and
Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever subject
to the payment out of my
Personal Estate of my mortgage and all other debts,
funeral and testamentary
expenses, upon trust to permit my wife Elizabeth to
use and occupy my Dwelling
House wherein I now reside and to have the use and
enjoyment of all my
household Goods, Plates, Linen and Effects and to
pay to or permit and suffer
my said wife to receive and take the rents,
interest and dividends arising
from my residuary real and Personal Estate after
payment thereout the expenses
of insuring and keeping in repair all my Messuages
and Tenements for and
during the term of her natural life and after the
decease of my said wife I
give to my son John Packer the sum of Nineteen
Pounds, Nineteen Shillings and
I give and bequeath my residuary Personal Estate
after the payment of the said
legacy unto and equally among my children, my said
son William, George,
Edward, Stephen and my daughter Sarah Brown equally
to be divided between them
share and share alike as Tenants in common. I
devise my two Messuages situated
in the High St. in the said town of Milton now in
my own occupation and Edward
Bennett unto my said sons William, George and
Edward as Tenants in common
absolutely. I devise two of my four Cottages situated
in Water Lane in Milton
aforesaid being those nearest to Crown Lane now in
the occupation of James
Packer and John Stublefield to my son Stephen
Packer absolutely (Subject to
and charged with the payment of the principal sum
of One Hundred and seventy
Nine Pounds secured to me at the rate of Five
Pounds per annum by his
promissory note and I devise the remaining two of
my said four Cottages
situated in Water Lane in Milton aforesaid
adjoining the two Cottages before
given to my said son Stephen Packer now in the
occupation of Edward said and
Thomas Bean to my said daughter Sarah Brown
absolutely and I direct my
Trustees or Trustee to invest any portion of my
said residuary personal
Estate which during the life of my said wife shall
come to their hands and
shall consist of money and not be repaired for the
purposes aforesaid in or
upon the public stocks or funds or on mortgage
freehold or leasehold
hereditaments in England with power to vary his
?????????? for others of the
like nature in their or his discretion. I devise my
real Estates (if any)
vested in me as Trustee or mortgagee to the said
Stephen Court and William
Packer subject to the equities affecting the same
respectively I empower the
Trustees or trustee for the time being of my Will
to give receipts for all
monies and Effects to be paid or delivered to such
trustees or trustee by
virtue of my Will and declare that such receipts
shall ?????????? the persons
taking the same from all liability to see to the
inclination or disposition of
the money or Effects therein mentioned I empower
the Trustees or trustee for
the time being of my Will to compound or allow time
for the payment of any
debt or debts due to my Estate and to satisfy all
demands against my Estate
whether supported by legal evidence or not and to
settle all accounts
between me and my person or persons on such terms
as my said Trustees or
Trustee shall in their or his discretion think
expedient and to refer any
matters in difference relating to my affairs to ???????????
I declare that
if my said Trustees or either of them or any
Trustees or Trustee to be
appointed under his Clause shall die or be
unwilling or incompetent to
accept or execute the trusts of my Will it shall be
lawful for the
competent Trustees or Trustee for the time being if
any whether retiring
from the office of Trustee or not or if none for
the executors or
administrators of the last deceased Trustee to
substitute by any writing under
their or his hands or hand any person or persons in
whom alone or (as the
case may be) jointly wish any surviving or
continuing Trustees or Trustee
my Trust Estate shall be vested and I exempt every
Trustee of my Will from
liability for losses occurring without his own
wilful default and authorise him
to retain and allow to his Co-Trustee all expenses
incidental to the
Trusteeship. Lastly I revoke all other Wills IN
WITNESS whereof I have to this
my said last Will and Testament contained in three
sheets of paper subscribed
my name at the bottom of the first two sheets and
at the end thereof this

April 3rd 1785 to February 23rd
1865
THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me John
Packer of Sittingbourne in the
County of Kent, Basket Maker. In the first place I
order and direct that all
my just debts funeral and other testamentary
expenses be fully paid and
satisfied by my executors hereinafter named I give
to my son William Edwin all
my wearing apparel I give and bequeath unto my dear
wife Frances Packer all my
ready money and securities for money and all sum
and sums of money which I my
be entitled unto out of or form any benefit or
burial society whatsoever
together with all my household furniture, stock in
trade, book and other debts
due to me at the time of my decease for and during
the term of her natural
life and from and immediately after her decease I
give and bequeath all my
household furniture, stock in trade, ready money,
book and other debts,
fixtures and all and every other my personal estate
and effects which may be
remaining at the time of the decease of my said
wife unto my son Frederick and
my daughter Frances Rebecca Packer their several
and respective executors and
administrators in equal shares and proportions for
their own absolute use and
benefit and I here direct that my business shall be
conducted and carried on
by my said son Frederick and my said daughter
Frances Rebecca during the
lifetime of my said wife for her benefit and it is
my wish and I hereby direct
that after my death of my said wife my executors do
pay unto my son Charles
the sum of Five Pounds a year out of the business
for the time and space of
four years from the day of the death of my said
wife provided nevertheless
that he my said Charles shall continue to work at
my business in Sittingbourne
in addition to what he may earn but such payments
to cease if he die's or
discontinues to work for the Packers who may at
that time carry on my
business at Sittingbourne and I nominate,
constitute and appoint my said wife
and my son Frederick executrix and executor of this
my last Will and
Testament and I hereby revoke and make void all
former and other Will and
Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do
declare this only to be my last
Will and Testament. IN WITNESS whereof I the said
John Packer the Testator
have hereunto subscribed my name this twenty first
day of January in the year
of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty

reserved of making the like grant to Frances Packer
Widow the relict the other

The Testator John Packer was late of Sittingbourne
in the County of Kent
Basket Maker and died on the 23rd day of February
1865 at Sittingbourne
aforesaid.

Edward Packer
July 6th 1788 to October 4th
1872
THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF EDWARD
PACKER of West Street Faversham in the County of Kent. First I will direct that
all my funeral expenses and
just debts be paid. I hereby give devise and
bequeath all my Messuages, lands,
tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever whether in
remainder reversion or
expectancy with their appurtenances together with
all debts and securities for
money that shall be due to me or in my possession
at the time of my decease
unto my son Osmond Packer and William E Parrett of
Milton Independent minister
whom I hereby appoint trustees and executors of
this my said last Will and
Testament and whom I hereby request to accept of
the sum of Ten Pounds each
for the trouble they may incur herein upon the
trusts following that is to say
to receive all rents and emoluments that may be due
or becoming due thereon
and all debts and monies that may be due to me at
the time of my decease and
whose receipt either severally or jointly shall be
a sufficient discharge for
the same and I hereby direct the said Osmond Packer
and William e Parrett as
soon as may be with all convenient speed after my
decease to sell by public
auction or private contract as may be deemed most apedient
and advantageous
all my said Messuages, lands, Hereditaments with
their appurtenances and I
declare that the signatures of the said Osmond
Packer and William E Parrett
shall be deemed to all intents and purposes good
and sufficient to the
conveyance of the said Messuages, lands, tenements,
Hereditaments with their
appurtenances I hereby give and bequeath unto my
daughter Eliza Bailey wife of
William Bailey the sum of two hundred and fifty
pounds and to my daughter
Agnes Packer the like sum of two hundred and fifty
pounds and I also further
direct that what ever amount shall remain from the
proceeds of such sale or
sales together with all other monies arising from
debts due to me or from any
security securities for money possessed by me at
the time of my decease after
satisfying all my debts, funeral and testamentary
expenses and all expenses
incident to the trusts hereby created and after the
payment of the aforesaid
legacies of ten pounds to each of my said executors
and the several sums of two
hundred and fifty pounds to my said two daughters
shall be equally divided
between my two sons and two daughters namely Osmond
Packer, Austin Packer and
Agnes Packer share and share alike and I hereby
give and bequeath unto my said
son Osmond Packer my bookcase and all my books,
save and except those books
late the property of my deceased daughter Ann Cleveland Packer, also my large
chest with its contents and all my wearing apparel
and I further give and
bequeath unto my son Austin Packer the bookcase and
all the said books late
the property of my said daughter Ann Cleveland
Packer also The writing desk
and the pictures now in his possession and I hereby
further declare that the
said trustees for the time being of this my Will
shall be changeable only with such.
Proved at Canterbury (with a codicil) the 19th day
of march 1873 by the oath
of Osmond Packer the son of the surviving executor
named in the Will to whom
administration was granted.
The Testator Edward Packer was formerly of West Street
Faversham in the County
of Kent but late of Saint Mary's Road Faversham
aforesaid Gentleman and died
on the 4th day of October 1872 at Saint Mary's Road
aforesaid.

Frederick Packer
1814 to April 23rd 1872
THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF ME FREDERICK
PACKER of Sittingbourne in the County of Kent Basket Maker. First I direct all
my just debts and funeral
and testamentary expenses to be paid and satisfied
by my executrix and
executor hereafter named I give and bequeath my
half part or share of and in
the stock and utensils in trade and effects of and
belonging to the business
of Basket Makers now carried on by me in CO
Partnership with my sister Frances
Rebecca Packer unto my brother Charles Arthur
Packer absolutely. I give and
bequeath to my said sister Frances Rebecca Packer
all my ready money and
securities for money and all sum and sums of money
to which may be entitled at
the time of my decease and also all monies invested
in stocks whether in
possession reversion or expectancy to and for her
own use and benefit
absolutely and I appoint my sister Frances Rebecca
Packer and my brother in
law Henry Thomas Foreman executrix and executor of
this my Will. Lastly I revoke
all former Wills In witness whereof I have here
under set my hand this fifth
day of September One thousand eight hundred and
seventy-one.

as his last Will and
Testament in the presence of us present at the time
who at his request in his
presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our
names as witnesses,

Rebecca Packer, spinster the
other executor named in the Will.
The Testator Frederick Packer was late of
Sittingbourne in the County of Kent,
Basket Maker and died on the 23rd day of April 1872
at Sittingbourne aforesaid.
