| Welcome to my Home Page. I have been researching the Altop Family. George Altop b. 15 Sep 1849/1850 in OH married Artemissa Matilda Campbell b. 25 Apr 1856 in Ray Co., MO, and had a total of 14 children. One of the sons, John Luther Altop b. 25 Sep 1879 in KC, Wyandotte, KS d. 21 Jul 1940 was my great-grandfather. John married Effie May (Emma E.) Campbell b. 28 May 1881. Effie was full-blooded Cherokee, and may have been adopted by George and Artemissa, or Artemissa's parents, James Linville Campbell b. 8 May 1828 in Knoxville, TN, and Nancy White vanderpool b. 27 Nov 1832 in Ray Co., MO. Nothing more is known of Effie's ancestry. John Luther and Effie May Altop had four children, James L., Mary, George David and John Winters, all of whom are pictured in the photo. John Winters Altop b. 2 Jan 1907 in Nowata Co., OK d. Aug 1978 in KC, Wyandotte, KS is the youngest and is my grandfather. I would welcome correspondence from anyone who knew my grandfather and grandmother, Mildred Loiuse Groothouse. James L. (Jimmy) died in Oct. 1918 in WWI and is buried in Oise-Aisne Memorial Cemetery in France. George David married Helen Larson in Colorado, abt 1928. Nothing is known of Mary Altop. A few of the surnames are: Altop, Alltop, Groothouse, Campbell, Wing, Hatken, Baker, Ackley, Morris, Weekley, Curtis, Vanderpool, Meadders, Kinman, Mann, White, Johns, Ballenger, and Linville. I have also been researching the Cunningham/Turner/Moberg/Truex families. I have a great deal of information on the Cunningham/Moberg families, but I am in serious need of information on the Turner/Truex families. Our closest tie involves the marriage of Lester Samuel Turner b. 1 Nov 1902 d. 12 Feb 1974 in Byesville, OH, and Mary Isabelle Truex b. 9 Mar 1904 d. 6 Aug 1996. A few of the surnames here are: Turner, Truex (Truax), Marlatt, Fuller, Richardson, Buchanan, Ball, Stilwell (Stillwell), and Pittman. Any information that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. |
