| The family arrived in the United States on July 3, 1849 having sailed from Antwerp, Belgium aboard the ship Louisiana. On the passenger manifest John is listed with his wife Mary, three sons,William, Christian and Frederick along with a 7 year child, Catherine presumed to be a daughter although no further records include her name. John was born in Prussia as were the sons. The birthplace of Catherine is unknown. Little is known of his wife other than that her name was Mary. John was born circa 1805 and Mary circa 1803. The sons, William , born 1830..Christian, born 1833...Frederick, born 1843. The 1850 Census finds them in Washington County, PA. In 1860 they are located in Perry Township, Perryopolis, Fayette County,Pa. In 1870, they are located in LaSalle, LaSalle County, IL and from 1880 on, in St. Louis, MO. Most info which I have concerns, William who was married to Louise Lutz, born 1840 in Darmstadt, Germany. They were married in Albany, NY August 27, 1856 and had seven children. Charles is the principal family member of whom I have info. Charles was born July 1, 1861 in Perry Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in a town named Perryopolis. I have to date found no info tracing them back to Germany other than their departure from Brussels. All census records simply state Prussia as country born. Inasmuch as Prussia has ceased to exist we have found no further info although we suspect that Hanover was the place of origin. Any info which you may have or any info which I may share would be gratefully accepted and given. |
