Notes for Thomas J. Alvis: Thomas J. Alvis appears in the 1860 Greenbrier County Census in the household of Alexis Alvis. He is listed as 23 years old, and as a farmer. He can read and write. I have no evidence he is a brother to Alexis, but it seems the most likely relationship. It is not sure, however. |

Notes for Leanna Alvis: This daughter is not certain. The source lists her parents as M Alvis and Elizabeth Alvis, and her birthplace as Greenbrier county. I feel that the M is actually a mistranscribed Wm as all the other entries read. This seems likely because of a lack of corroboration of the existence of an M Alvis in the county. The Alvis family is small in this county so it seems unlikely he would never appear in any other documents. Isaiah also seems to have married Leanna's sister-in-law, which seems to indicate a probable relationship between them, and we have solid documentation of his parents. And while the fathers name does not seem to match, the mother of Leanna is listed as Elizabeth. So even though certainty can not be claimed, the evidence is substantial. |
