In the mid-1800's, our family names started showing up in Wisconsin. Reuben and Sally ROGERS homesteaded in Juneau County. George Pickering DISSMORE came to Wisconsin in the 1850's as a young man, having left his childhood home of Marblehead, MA. He married Mary Elizabeth ROGERS in 1859, the same year he was ordained a Baptist minister. He had a church in Viroqua, Wisconsin during the early years of their marriage, and also served as clergyman in a lumber camp. In 1863, he and his wife homesteaded in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Their son, David Reynolds DISSMORE, married Alice Johanna BREED, daughter of Calvin E. BREED and Anna Margaret CRANE. Anna was the daughter of Charles C. CRANE and Hannah Ann WADE. David and Alice lived in the Whitehall area all of their lives.Their daughter, Lily Anna DISSMORE, was my grandmother. She married Raymond Franklin ZAHN in 1926.We are very blessed in that several books have been written about the settling of this beautiful area of Wisconsin, and our line is mentioned in these books, so I am able to gather some good information.I am very interested in finding more information about any of these lines. I would particularly like to know about the ROGERS line; our family oral history says that we are descended of JOHN ROGERS, THE MARTYR, who came of a royal line, but I have thus far been unable to go back beyond Reuben and Sally ROGERS. Many ROGERS folks were among the earliest colonists, including two, a father and young son, on the Mayflower (though I do not believe he is a direct ancestor). The BREED line is also of great interest; Ebenezer BREED was the owner of Breed's Hill in MA, where the Battle of Bunker Hill was fought. If anyone has information to share, or would like more on these folks (including many photos), I would love to hear from you! n_ames@execpc.comnames@lhl.gundluth.org
