My husband Hal and I are researching both families. Surnames for my husband's mother's family include WARD, MANNING, HAMPTON and ENGLISH. The MANNING and HAMPTON families were in South Carolina in the 1860's. Wade Hampton MANNING married the daughter of a former governor of South Carolina who's last name was JOHNSON, and settled in Enterprise, Alabama. Specifiacally, we are looking for a connection between Wade Hampton MANNING and Wade HAMPTON, former Confederate General and subsequent Governor of South Carolina.
My research is currently centered around my mother's family. I am looking for ancestors of Eveline PIKE of Grafton, VT and her husband Henry LINDSEY. They had a daughter, Ellen Adelia, later known as Nellie, born July 6, 1861 in Grafton who married Heman Scott CROSBY May 15, 1884 in Milford, MA.
