Notes for Jeanette Anna 'Nettie' Horton: Jeanette and Charles were married by Rev. C. V. Bristow. She and Charles Benjamin lived in several towns as he changed jobs as a Peace Officer. In Houston, they lived in several houses near Heights Blvd., on those streets named for universities. She wore glasses as a young woman. She was later blinded by cataracts (her eyes were milky white) because surgery was especially complicated in the 1930's, and there was no money to pay for surgery anyway. Both she and Charles Benjamin lived with Willie Edith at 734 East 8 1/2 St. in their later years. Willie Edith rented the same house for 33 years.
The Houston Post p.13 Sec. 1 and Houston Chronicle p.8 Sec. D both had the same "Mortuary" paragraph on Feb. 24, 1938: BRIDGE - Mrs. Nettie Horton Bridge, 75, of 734 East Eight and One-Half Street, died in a hospital at 10:45 pm Wednesday Feb. 23. She is survived by three sons, E. H. Bridge of San Antonio, and L. S. and C. H. Bridge of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. A. D. Ammons of Kenedy and Miss Willie Bridge of Houston; a niece, Mrs. Belle Shipley of Waco; and seven grandchildren.\\ Funeral services at 12 noon Friday Feb. 25 at the Heights Funeral Chapel with Rev.
