| I am looking for relationships with the following families: AMSTEIN My research has been mostly in Wila, a village just east of Zurich, Switzerland. Churchbook records of Amsteins can be found as early as 1571 and as late as 1860. From a contact in Zurich, I understand no Amsteins are living in Wila at this time. However, they are known to live in the city of Winterhur and other nearby communities. While the Amstein surname is not too common, there are quite a few of us in the US at the present time. VON GOETTINGER, or may also be GOETTINGER, or GOTTINGER Mathias von Goettinger emigrated in approximately 1860, as near as I can tell, from Krems, Austria, which is just west of Vienna. He and his brother John settled in Algoma, Door County, Wisconsin. MARIK Before he was killed in an accident, Mathias married Mary MARIK, who was born in Prov. Pilsen, Bohemia. Mathias and Mary had one daughter, Mary Katherine, who married Wilhelm Rudolf Amstein and are my grandparents. HILL and ANNEL On my mother's side of the family, I am looking for early members of the Hill and Annel families. I can trace a direct line of Hills back to 1830 in Osburg, Germany. Peter Hill emigrated from Germany to Sweden/Norway to Chicago, Illinois around 1900. Peter Hill and Elizabeth Annel married in Osburg. Elizabeth was born in the neighboring city of Trier, Germany. |
