| Spensley is a surname which for many branches, appears to have origins in the Yorkshire Dales of England. Ancestors have been involved in (lead) mining and in agriculture.Names I am researching in connection with my own branch are:-SPENSLEY, PRESTON, AMSDEN, DOBINSON.In the early 1800's, with the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the downturn in the fortunes of the lead mining industry, some Spensleys emigrated to the USA, particularly to the Upper Mississippi lead region and places such as Mineral Point, Dubuque, Platteville, New Diggings, Galena. I would be interested in information relating to any Spensley family, with the hope of filling in those 'missing links'. |
