The Stone - Gilmore Family

My understanding of our famly roots and where we came from have definately changed since I started doing research on the family history of Harley and Ina(Gilmore)Stone.

I knew our grandfather Harley Stone had been a coal miner. I knew that Ina Gilmores family were farmers. I knew that the family was from Rutland, Meigs Co., Ohio. How long could it take to put some sort of a family tree together, since I had such limited information to start with.

Well, it's been over two years now and I can't believe the things I have found out about our family. I have found, so far, 3 Revolutionary War Patriots and ancestors that fought in the Civil War. I have tracked family beginnings to Vermont, Rhode Island and Virginia. So far I know we are primarly English. When the Hysell's came to this country the name was changed from Bernhisle to Hysell or Hisel. That sounds pretty German to me. Our Bellows ancestors were instrumental in the Underground Railroad.

I have found some wounderful published stories about our early ancestors. I felt that I had gathered enough facts and information that it was time to share with all of you. I'm still finding lots of interesting facts and will continue to update this Home Page. I hope you find the information interesting. If anyone has pictures or stories they would like to share I would love to hear from you. Enjoy!

    The date on her headstone is incorrect. Virginia actually died on the 15 of November, 1931. Wilton and Anne Stone were married on the 21 of November 1931. Why did Wilton and Anne get married just a few days after her death?

    May of 2007 I had the opportunity to go to Ohio and Pennsylvania to do research on the family. We had the opportunity to get together with Lewis and his family for a great couple of days to meet all the new members that have joined the family in the last 30 years.
