We have traced our family back to William Simmonds,born 1823 in Cotton, Shropshire, England. He married Ellen Hodnet, born 1818 from Lowe, Shropshire. My father was John Edward married to Jessie Blair of Greenock Scotland. John Edward's father Joseph Simmonds was married to Hannah Jones at Poulton cum Seacombe,Cheshire England, Joseph's father John Simmonds also married a Hannah Jones, all of Cheshire in England. John's parents were William Simmonds of Cotton, Shropshire and his wife Ellen Hodnet of Lowe, Shropshire, England. William and Ellen married 5th June 1843. It is also believed that William Simmonds' father was named William, possibly of the same district, but unconfirmed at this date.
