I am researching the Adam August Wiegand Family. Although I have extensive information about Adam Wiegand's descendants in the United States, I know very little about Adam's German ancestors. I know Adam was born in Wittenberg, Germany in 1851. He had a brother named August. Adam fought in the Franco-Pussian War and immigrated about 1870 after escaping from a French prison. In 1885 he left his job as a butcher in Chicago and went West to join a German colony in Olivenhain, California. In 1886 he returned to Chicago to marry the widow Anna Berger and then returned to Olivenhain. Anna's maiden name was Schmidt. She was born in 1856 in Heilbron, Germany. She immigrated in 1877. She is called Christiana by her family, even though her marriage license to Adam listed her name as Anna. They had five children. I am a descendant of their first son, Alwin John Wiegand.. I am also researching the Daniel Samuel Wiehle Family. Daniel was born in 1853 in Rattwitz, Germany and died in 1927 in Encinitas, California. He immigrated in 1881. Daniel was the son of Daniel Wiehle, a farmer, and Eleanora Maiwald Wiehle. He married Magdalena Margaret Dorothy Schroder in 1879. Magdalena was the daughter of Carl Frederick Heinrich Schroeder, a shoemaker, and Petersine Christiansdotter. The Wiehle's lived in Cleveland and Lorain, Ohio, New Mexico and California. They had ten children. I am a descendant of their daughter, Frieda Caroline Wiehle who married Alwin John Wiegand. I would be glad to share any information I have and would be interested in hearing from anyone with information about the ancestors of the Wiegand's or Wiehle's. |
